This third and highly anticipated release by Sound Reformation sees the band changing its sonic soundscape once again. A World in Solitude pays homage to the famous Colombian author, Gabriel García Márquez and what is his most acclaimed work, Cien Años de Soledad (100 Years of Solitude). The album features twelve tracks exploring various themes found in the novel and some very specific scenes as well. Sound Reformation is joined by world renowned percussionist Little Johnny Rivero and the narration is done by Alfonso Cayón.
Gabo, as he was also known, said:“¡Cómo me gustará la música que no puedo escribir oyendo música, porque le pongo más atención que a lo que estoy escribiendo!” ("How I will like music because I cannot write by listening to music, because I pay more attention to it than to what I am writing!”).
"Dicen que uno vive donde tiene sus libros, pero yo vivo donde tengo mis discos" ("They say you live where you have your books, but I live where I have my records"), Music was present in the conversations and interviews of the brilliant Latin American writer.
To a question from a journalist about his taste in music, Gabo responded: “Lo único mejor que la música es hablar de música.” ("“The only thing better than music is talking about music.”).
Great and charismatic Gabo. In 2002 I was invited to cover the Habana Jazz Plaza Festival, in Cuba. A wonderful Latin jazz group had moved to the Island and, together with those who were at home, they formed a first-rate musical contingent. At the same time, the Havana International Film Festival was being held and Gabo was there and he left the film commitment and came to the Amadeo Roldan Theater to enjoy the Jazz Plaza and its music.
"Un Mundo en Soledad" has several virtues to praise: it has its own style of Latin jazz, creativity, it supports the expansion of Latin jazz based on the literary work of a giant of Latin America: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author by "Cien Años de Soledad" ("One Hundred Years of Solitude").
Mr. Yokley put together a magnificent band, who understood his feelings.
