Este domingo, 31 de Mayo 2015, abriremos con la vocalista Aimee Allen quien lanza su CD "Matter of Time" por todo lo alto el proximo 16 de junio en The Cutting Room en la ciudad de New York. En esta produccion la presencia del guitarrista brasilero le da una profundidad y sonoridad latina a los temas interpretados por la señorita Aimee Allen (ver www.jazzglobalbeat.blogspot.com 13 de Mayo 2015)...Una gira en el venidero mes de agosto cumplira el guitarrista Mark Egan, por Austria e Italia, quien ademas celebra su nuevo CD  "Direction Home", su trio lo completan Mitchel Forman (keyboards) y Danny Gottlieb (bateria). BARONESA (JazzHeads) is Cristina Morrison's hot, new CD scheduled to hit the streets on June 9th. The release  contains 11 tracks, 8 of which are original, with the lyrics written by Cristina and music composed by pianist Misha Piatigorsky (Baronesa's producer).

Cristina is just off a busy performance tour in Ecuador, where she is a well established performer and celebrity.  Today, living in New York City, Morrison brings her charismatic stage presence and engaging relationship with the audience to music lovers around the world.

This new album is jazz-infused, much like her first album, I LOVE, but this time around Cristina expands her horizon.  Here she sings in four languages and showcases her experience as an actress, singing in different styles and genres including: bolero, drum & bass, cha-cha-cha, lounge,  and Arabian rhythms. The result is an eclectic cross-genre world-jazz production. Her lyrics speak of love, dreams, colorful memories, the pain of losing her mother, and also about her friends and anecdotes. Cristina plays through her interpretive side not only on the record but on stage as well.  Her performance has evolved into more of a theatrical experience as she navigates through the realms and concepts within Baronesa. "It's musically complex and deep, it's a well thought out production and very very fun too!" she smiles.

Her creative process for BARONESA started on the Galapagos Islands just like I LOVE. She's committed to the Islands as a promoter of an arts education program called Arteducarte, taught in the public schools of Isabela Island. A percentage of her record sales go towards the yearly funding of the program. Recently she was honored with an invitation to speak at the first TEDx GALAPAGOS and as part of the JURY committee for the fiction feature length competition at the Havana Film Festival in New York. Cristina is also involved as a board member of the screen actors union of Ecuador.  Her latest film, Feriado, in which she played and was an associate producer, had it's world premiere at the BERLINALE last year and screened during LATINBEAT at Lincoln Center.

2015 JJA JAZZ AWARDS HONOR MUSICAL EXCELLENCE RANDY WESTON PRAISED FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

NEW YORK – The Jazz Journalists Association has announced winners of its 2015 JJA Jazz Awards for musical excellence in calendar year 2014 http://www.jjajazzawards.org/p/2015.html, and released details about its annual public Jazz Awards party, at the Blue Note Jazz Club, 131 W. 3rd St., NYC, on June 16, from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. The 19th annual JJA Jazz Awards celebrates Randy Weston, 89-year-old pianist, composer, lecturer, and Brooklyn-born Africanist with its top honor, the Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Award. Recording for six decades and still touring widely, Weston is a frequent presence at Jazz Foundation of America benefits and also played memorably with conguero Candido Camero at the JJA's Jazz Awards party in 2010. African Rhythms, Weston's autobiography written with JJA founding member Willard Jenkins, was nominated for the JJA's Book of the Year Award in 2011. Piano jazz is a major focus of the 2015 Jazz Awards, as pianist Jason Moran, artistic director of jazz at the Kennedy Center, is cited as Musician of the Year, and pianists Kenny Barron, Chick Corea and composer-arranger-orchestra leader Arturo O'Farrill receive Awards in other categories. Besides being deemed Pianist of the Year, Kenny Barron with bassist Dave Holland wins the Duo or Trio of the Year Award, and their album TheArt of Conversation (Impulse!) is Record of the Year. Guitarist Mary Halvorson and vibist Warren Wolf are first time winners of Jazz Awards, while Gregory Porter, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Pedrito Martinez, Nicole Mitchell, Christian McBride, Anat Cohen, Ambrose Akinmusire, Miguel Zenon, Brian Blade and Edmar Castañeda are among the repeat honorees.
