Released on Friday, April 26 on digital platforms, “Dakum” is the 8th album by the Venezuelan pianist, singer and composer Prisca Dávila, who will celebrate the launch with a tour in May through stages in Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid. In them, he will present both the new songs from “Dakum” and a selection of pieces from his other seven albums, especially those where the connection with flamenco that he has had throughout his career is present.

In this album, the fusion between Venezuelan, academic and jazz music that characterizes Prisca Dávila's style is expanded with the incorporation of new rhythms such as funk. The repertoire of “Dakum” is made up of songs that Prisca recently composed, inspired by personal experiences such as motherhood, farewell, hope, mourning and reunion.

The musical production of the album was carried out by maestro Gerry Weil. In the five songs that the album contains, the piano, played by Prisca, is the protagonist, accompanied by her voice and by the bass, drums, and percussion, recorded from different parts of the world by Venezuelan musicians who have participated in concerts. and recordings of the pianist over the years.

The first single is titled, precisely, “Dakum”, and is born from the love of this artist for her son, who said that word to express his joy when he was barely walking. It features Luis Freites on double bass and Carlos “Nené” Quintero on percussion.

“Esperanza" follows, based on his belief that "Music is light and in the face of darkness we must give more light." Gonzalo Teppa is in charge of double bass; Adolfo Herrera, of drums; and Diego “El Negro” Álvarez , from the flamenco box.

Thirdly, there is “Despedida”, created from the feeling of separation from her sister Marieva Dávila when she emigrated to Canada. It is a “Funk-Jazz” starring Prisca's piano and voice, along with Heriberto Rojas on bass and Abelardo Bolaño on drums.

“Shanti,” which means “Peace” in Sanskrit, is a solo piano song, composed while deeply grieving the recent physical departure of loved ones.

Finally, “Joropo Moruno” symbolizes the meeting point of her passion for Venezuelan music and that of her sister Marieva for flamenco, since she as a pianist, composer and dancer transmitted to Prisca that love for gypsy art, which It motivated her to write songs based on Spanish harmonies and Venezuelan rhythms. Nelson Echandia recorded electric bass; Manuel Rangel, the maracas; and in the flamenco box, clapping and jaleos, is Goyo Reyna.
