When you listen to a Bill O'Connell recording you may not know what is on the menu, but you're guaranteed it'll be a gourmet delight. Mr. O'Connell's Imagine serves up a 9-course feast of fascinating sounds that will please even the most discerning ears. As in O'Connell's previous recording (Zocálo Savant SCD 2129), the gifted veterans and leaders in their own right, Conrad Herwig on trombone and saxophonist Steve Slagle add their prowess to the mix. On the bass is the amazingly talented young man, one of NYC's first call bassists, Luques Curtis who was also part of Bill's prior CD, as was percussionist Richie Flores, who has been playing with O'Connell for more than a decade. The newcomer to the group is drummer Richie Barshay who has an impressive résumé that includes a stint with Herbie Hancock. O’Connell gives his arranging chops a real workout with interesting takes on “Willow Weep for Me” and John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and penned some new originals specifically for this recording from a powerful voice in Latin Jazz. |

Alejandro Berti is a native of Caracas, Venezuela, but has made the city of New York is his musical paradise and trumpet his right arm from exposure to the openness and vitality of improvisation. Alejandro comes from four generations of music by his father. He is a musician for whom the term "race music in his veins", we mean literally. His mother was classic and I trained on the violin before he could say a proper sentence.
After chose the trumpet as a teenager. Alexander has served in a wide number of genres. Everything from Jazz Orchestra, from rock to funk, from salsa to SKA- whatever. For Alexander, this is not boxing himself into a genre. It's about the creative process, who lives in the rhythm and bustle of New York, and collaborating with other musicians to communicate something universal through music. When not in the studio, Alexander presents live music in clubs throughout the city and teacher performance to their dear students. A lot of time and energy of Alexander is dedicated to teaching and guiding their students. Among his pupils is Vivian, 10, said: "He has shown me the exciting world of music through the trumpet."
The "Project Alejandro Berti" is the adventure of Alejandro Berti to collaborate with other musicians in three very different genres albums. One of the three discs is a duo of trumpet and jazz piano, where Alexander standards touch with his long-time collaborator and friend, Logan Evan Thomas on piano.
Another album of the project is to experiment with electronics to produce a unique and rich sound acoustic instrumentation is supplemented with electronic sounds to create an atmosphere of jazz-infused riveting. Alexander will be working with his father in the most complex album Alejandro Project. This diligent effort is intended to encompass the rich traditional sounds of Americana / folk music.
Now Alejandro is preparing a importantante competition because I get to semis, expect a great presentation and a great result, only Latin America, selected for the discerning music event.
This is the most recent statement of Alejandro Berti (now October 21, 2014), which certainly evidence as a person, simple and human: "I feel in order to represent what I am and where very happy I have been in a competition like the Thelonious Monk Institute is of Jazz. I am honored to belong to a group of trumpeters with the sole goal of making music and being able to play my instrument in front of a jury so incredible. very happy and grateful for this opportunity "
In this short video you can appreciate the talent and virtuosity of the young Alejandro Berti value:
